Back to Uni
enersis’ employees giving a lecture at HPI.
The HPI is unique in the Berlin and Brandenburg university landscape. As a faculty of the University of Potsdam, the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) offers the practical and innovation-oriented program “IT Systems Engineering” as part of the Bachelor and Master degrees. The practical form of computer science studies emphasizes the modeling and development of complex software systems. The aim of the HPI is to train high-potential students as qualified IT system engineers. Two of our colleagues working at the Kleinmachnow location are HPI-alumni. In addition, the HPI is the cradle of SAP’s in-memory database HANA, applied by enersis.
Reasons enough for Vincent Ait-Ammar and Tobias Wieschnowsky to take the short ride to ”back to school” in December to present their data science solution delivered to an international process automation company. The project covered a Big Data analysis of the various parameters of a conveyor belt and its interdependencies. This challenging task was accomplished by approximating key performance indicators representing different, selected characteristics and factors influencing the energy consumption of the system. The application of data science and predictive analytics tools based on our GRIDS platform now enables our customer to realize massive energy savings while significantly increasing system reliability.
It was a special event for us and the intensive exchange with the students and professors following the presentation of the use case was a great pleasure – we would like to return soon and look forward to interesting applications as working students or career starters.
